Sadly I missed the event too as I'm now working in Italy what did I miss? How is the future looking am I going to be replaced by a machine lol
I'm a laminator by the way to not cause confusion
I don't think we are about to be replaced by machines just yet Lol.
The Automotive and Aerospace sectors having the largest predicted growth followed by the Wind Energy and Construction sectors.
Clearly good news for the industry however I can see an increase in the cost of raw materials as demand increases. There seems to be some real concern about the ability to actually produce enough carbon for example.
May not be a problem for companies with huge buying power but us smaller users may suffer.
There were some interesting pre pregs, one having an eight minute cure/de mould time (using a heated matched tool) but from a personal perspective infusion still appears to be alive and well
Re useable silicone bags seem to be coming down in price too. I even had one supplier offer to make me one FOC for me to try.

I was there on the Tuesday - very interesting event, at the moment my interest in CF is too new for me to really get much from shows like this, except for a bunch of brochures.... There was a rather excellent looking milling machine (Denton IIRC) over on one side.
I did look for EasyComposites, but didn't find them...

curious about that epoxy spray tack!
Used aerofix 2 untill now...only used it a few times because it gave me some bad (not good enough) results.

Sounds good. Can't wait to hear about the spray tack. I'm using 3M 77 at the mo and I'm not massively convinced that having this distributed through a laminate is the best.

I spent yesterday at the Composites and Engineering show at the NEC. Made contact with several potential suppliers offering some new and interesting products (mainly infusion based) one of which is a new epoxy based spray tack. From previous posts on here this should prove interesting to quite a few people so once the samples arrive and I have done some testing I will post the results, good or bad
I also had the pleasure of meeting forum member Kris (deagrateful) who has recently been bitten by the composites bug.
There were some interesting open forums on the predicted growth of the composites industry over the coming years. All encouraging stuff for anyone looking at composites as a career choice.
