I was just about to pull the trigger on one of your large mold making kits but when I tried to recalculate postage to Australia I was presented with a small surprise. Namely, the fact that some of the products in the kit are considered as Dangerous Goods and therefor pose a bit of an issue when shipping.

Rather than simply being told that the items cannot ship the script very nicely informed me to contact EC and or modify the order.

Now, since this might be something that could affect others in a similar situation as myself I decided to make my question public in the hope that others may benefit from your answer.

So, what is the alternative to paying £1000 shipping on a £79 kit if I want to ship it to my country (Australia) OR how can one get around such restrictions?

No, not yet.  I liked the idea of the EC kit because I know everything works as described and I don't have to try and piece something together myself.  Not having any experience with this stuff the kit is a VERY attractive option.

Is there any where Local (oz) that you would recommend?  I've looked at some of the big suppliers but I'm not looking to deal in the kind of quantities they'd be interested in supplying.

there are a few places i've found here in oz , www.amcsupplies.com.au www.barnes.com.au www.dalchem.com.au there was also a company that had a big ebay store 'comp-supp' it was aafibreglass in hunter nsw, not sure if these are still in business as the ebay store is empty.

they may not have everything you want that is in the kit from ec but may have something simillar. or you could then get whats not available here from ec.

i'm originally from the uk, been here 3 years i found it difficult to track those 3 websites down and dalchem is around the corner from work lol

Thanks for those links mate, I'll check them out and hopefully be able to put something together for myself locally.

Aussie businesses seem averse to doing business on the net, the uptake of the technology is VERY slow Sad  They still seem to think it's some kind of gimick and don't want to spend money setting up an eCommerce enabled site.

Hi BoostSamurai,

When the website says that shipping would be £1000 what we're trying to do is stop you from placing the order, it's not that we'd ever charge that, it just means that we pretty much can't ship something in your basket to your location. FedEx used to offer a 'Dangerous Goods' service to Australia which we used for our Australian customers. At the start of this year they cancelled that service and so unfortunately, for the time being at least, we can't ship anything containing hazardous materials (any release agents, resins, catalysts etc.) to Australia. We'll keep looking for alternative carriers and we'll keep talking with FedEx to see if the situation can be changed but for the time being, if the website throws up a £1000 shipping cost, it's basically saying that we can't ship these goods to you.

For very large orders to Australia then we can actually arrange shipping (orders over 150kgs) by using a special logistics company but shipping by air all the way to Australia, especiall when it's DG is always going to be pricey.

All the best, Matt

Thanks for the reply Matt,

I understood exactly what the script was trying to do with the quoted £1000 because it sure as hell stopped me in my tracks Wink

It's a shame that FedEx ceased their DG service though because I'm sure there are many potential customers such as myself that would love to make use of your service if shipping DG wasn't such an issue.  I really hope you are able to work out some sort of solution to this problem.

Having said that, I'm sure that once I've sorted out my 'chemical' needs and I'll be ordering fabrics and other consumables through you guys anyway.
