I'm looking to make some poles from carbon tubing and looking for pole diameter advice.

Clearly I don't want them to break, but would like them light.

Pole tips have an internal taper from about 12mm to 8mm but I could bond rod into the tube and make rod taper.
Handles can be got having an internal diameter of about 9mm.

I can sleeve the handle end to increase the diameter if needs be, handle I'd can go up to 18mm and if the tube Is thinner than the pole tip, sleeve that too.

Loads are likely to be vertical with some bending moments, esp if the pole flexes.

Normally the Max vertical load is likely to be half bodyweight, around 40kg, but shock loading is possible past body weight.

What's the diameter/wall thickness recommended?
