Hi All,

Is there an advantage in using 400gsm over 200gsm when using resin infusion over a lantor core? Is it always better to have more thinner layers of carbon cloth than fewer thicker layers  eg. two layers of 2/2 carbon twill each side of 3mm lantor core or one layer of 400gsm?Is there an optimum carbon layer core configuration for say a canoe seat. It need a thickness of 3mm to take away the sharp edge.

1 layer of 400 should infuse better (less likelyhood of dry spots) than 2 layers of 200 due to the weave but 400 will be a bigger weave with more "crimp" so will probably be slightly more flexible but in a small part you wouldn't notice.

Multiple layers of a lighter fabric gives better bearing capacity for bolting through

Chris is right, but for most applications there is no practical difference.  The biggest factor for many is cost.  You can bulk out the layers using 450g and heavier fabrics much much cheaper than using 200g fabric throughout.
