Hey all,
Just had a quick one on some clear epoxy casting resin that I'm using; Castin' Craft EasyCast.
I am trying to replicate a clip on a part of mine, as per my other thread (after thinking about it, the thread was unnecessary). I have tried making the mould using clay and plasticine to make an impression, both worked ok the clay was perhaps a bit easier but not as nice. However, I then cast the pieces using this casting resin and a tiny amount of black epoxy pigment. After leaving them to cure for 24 hours, I tried to demould but discovered the cast pieces are very flexible, ie. I can bend the clip in half, twist it around, etc. very easily with no visible damage. 5 days later, this is still the same. There is no tack to the pieces, they feel fully cured.
By all accounts, this resin is not supposed to be flexible, it should cure hard. So what has caused this? I'm thinking it's either the pigment, or something in the clay/plasticine (sulfur?) obstructing the cure process. I plan on making the final mould with silicone, but as this is my first time using these materials I just wanted to seek advice on what likely caused this before I keep experimenting and wasting resin.
Thanks for any help!
Martin.
