What would be the best way to skin my phone housing using the skinning starter kit. should i cut the button holes out while laying the carbon fiber or cover the holes then cut them out once the full process is completed.
this is the housing. i want to skin the external silver in carbon fiber.

Christoforo ... From one carbon novice to another >>>
DON'T ATTEMPT to cut out or disturb the weave whatsoever while doing the layup or you'll be sorry. Once cut, the fibers are next to impossible to keep oriented in the weave and things will start falling apart on you. I had the best results covering all the holes and cutouts on my motorcycle dashboard with carbon and trim out with scissors / wire cutter / Dremel tool
AFTER its HARD.
Maybe the "experts" have a better method ? Good Luck.

Another method is to lay up your carbon, wet it out with resin and then use a very sharp Stanley knife/craft knife/scalpel to cut the fibres away, you have to be very delicate sort of brushing the blade over the fibres/ pushing straight down to not disturb the weave, it can be done with a nice sharp blade. It will leave and nice clean cut line and the fibres won't frey if they are wet out with resin.
It might be worth just wetting out some carbon and practising cutting it with a few blades before you go for the phone housing. Also remember that the base coat will be nice and tacky so that should also hold the fibres in place.

Dont put carbon fiber near a mobile! you will probably find your signal looses a few bars
a work mate bought a CF iPhone3 back and it completely blocked the signal.
