hi guys,
Im trying to make a mold of a metal watch case and bezel. What would be the best method to use for this? Im going to be using the mold to cast a carbon fiber case.
Will the gel coat and molding putty work or is the watch case too small for this material.
Any guidance is highly appreciated. I ve checked through the forum and cant really find anything on this particular question
thanks!

I can't recall the company's name, but they were doing watch bodies with forged pre-preg and then autoclave curing followed by a CnC machining to get perfect tolerances. I can see this being required.

I think you will have to add a picture or drawing if you want some help... a lot of the way of making moulds will depend on the design, with edges and so on to prevent as much undercut as possible

thanks so much for all the responses guys. so what im looking to make a mold of is this watch case
the carbon fiber look im looking for is case below, so its the same case but in a cosmic carbon fiber look material. i ve seen some guys make these cases in a home environment, so i know it can be done. i know they dont use autoclave or high pressure molds.
i cant find the material to give me that cosmic carbon fiber look for the life of me. again it doesnt need the strength of cf just that cosmic look
below is a reg carbon fiber watch, which is not the look im going after
thanks so much again guys

I know they use the technique of "forged carbon" for that look for it in google...
Its a prepreg unidirectional that you will need for that look you are looking for...
Its not an easy way of producing parts that small...
Mostly they use an aluminium mould and clamp it to get some pressure and then put it into an oven to cure.
An other way is making a CF block and CNC-mill the shape...
You are talking about making those in a home environment...sounds a bit unpossible to me if you dont have some equipement
