I guess I have a good bit of prep work to to on the mould before I can use it and some little repairs also.

My brother was being more impatient than I and he took the mould of the board but says that the back of the mirror seems to be stuck. I don't know how hard he's been trying to get it out though.

I'll know for future projects to use the spray gun and 2k paint!

If flatting down the part means sanding through the paint down to the plastic, can you get away with polishing and waxing the plastic (along with the rest of the part) and using release agent on it? It doesn't have to be painted to work?

I've had rattle can paint issues weeks after I applied it, they should be avoided.

However unless you could see wrinkles in you gel coat you should get away with it a little cleaning up of the mould.... It's not going to be a hard part to release looking at your picks.

I recently bought some carbon wing mirror covers and they didn't have a lip just like yours... What I did was sanded down the original cover and basically cut the outer parts out including the lip... I then bonded that outs part into my carbon cover... Job done :-)

I was thinking of maybe adding the lip on after with a strip of cf and some resin or maybe bonding a plastic edge on the inside or something. The front bezel kind of clips over the lip on the back part.

I was thinking about the paint curing, the clear was left for a night and a bit after spraying it. We'll see next weekend when I'm home again and I can pull it apart.

Warren is right.

hopefully just the paint will come away which you can sand off the mould and repolish back to a shine.

You could make that part with the lip, but it would be a split moulding which is a lot of hassle for such a small part where bonding the carbon part into place, or fabricating a new mounting is probably easier.

Crap is all I can say! Rattle can and you are probably right, never though of it.

I won't know till next week when I'm home again before I can pull it apart.

What clear coat did you use 2k or rattle can? if its rattle can you may have release issues. especially as the clear coat is probably still not fully cured given the time scale of the project so far.

Wing mirror all prepped and mounted on a board

I should have painted it after primer and flatting, there's a good layer of clear coat on it, flattened with 2000 wet paper and polished with the da

And here's the gel coat, used up just about half so if this works I'll have enough to do the other mirror and have a pair
