Hi guys,

Just looking for peoples opinions on PPE following a mystery illness that, at a very long shot, could have been chemical exposure.  My current regime is nitrile gloves for all handling with industrial marigolds for brush bashing polyester.  I used a 3M carbon filtered mask (volatile organics rated) for handling liquid resins during mould making etc.  I use an FFP2 dust mask when cutting and sanding.  Is this adequate?  I'm considering an air fed visor if anyone would recomend one particularly.

I have heard that some people are sensitive to what the gloves are made of. Try different ones.

Also interested to see what people use/recommend - I haven't had any issues, but that's not to say it's correct...

I use nitrile gloves and a 3M A2P3 (Organic Vapor type) rated half mask and separate goggles... (Working with epoxy/vinylester/polyester resins and acetone)

Unfortunately (for my health) I worked with nasty stuff all my life. When I worked for BAE Systems there was even a product called "Hand Wash" which was actually Tricoehylene based, now a banned substance. I have been lucky (or may be not) that over the years I have had very few reactions to things. However the reactions I have had turned out to be not from the nasty "known" stuff but actually from the things used as protection, like Barrier Cream which nearly cost me my career as it was miss diagnosed as dermatitus. I am also allergic to the chalks/powders used inside some protective gloves.

Thanks guys.  I will look round to see what else I might have used.  I work in pharmaceutical research so I'm pretty clued up on what does what to you. 

I do get dermatitis so I'm careful on glove type too.  If its of interest most have reactions to latex in gloves so nitrile helps here, the powders can be skin irritant so I get powder free.  YOu can get cotton liners for nitrile gloves, I can look up a supplier if it helps anyone out?

I'm suspecting my issue is autoimmune but I was trying to rule out chemical exposure.  If anyone has any bioscience training I have a raised c-ANCA count.  It sounds like I have same PPE as James.
