Hello,

Ok right of the bat, absolutely great website for information and products. Well done.
My question is based around connecting two pieces of roll-wrapped carbon fibre tubing together. I would like to achieve this so the tubing can slide tightly into one another and when needed I can disconnect it and pack it away.
I do not mind if the connecting "slip/ferrule(?)" tube is Interior or Exterior(preferably exterior if I had a choice). An example would be: Im interested in the 35mm ID Carbon Fibre Tube (Roll Wrapped) product you sell. So does this tube slide tightly into the 38.1mm ID Carbon Fibre Tube (Roll Wrapped)? I compose the best way to put it, are your Roll Wrapped tubes telescopic?
If so I am am interested in finding out what kind of adhesive I would need to buy from you to possibly stick either one side or some of them together permanently? Also will this adhesive work if I try to bond aluminium to the carbon tubing?

Thanks for all your help,

G

Hi G,

Thanks for your post; I'm glad you like what we do Smile.

As you move through the range of roll wrapped carbon fibre tubes that we stock you'll find that we have one or two combinations which, almost coincidentally, telescope really nicely whereas the rest are just not the right diameter combinations to fit inside each other. The two tubes that you've linked to by way of an example are a good combination of two tubes which will telescope nicely. The 28.5mm (31.1mm OD) will also slide nicely into the 32mm ID tube.

In terms of the best adhesives to use, if you want one adhesive that can be used for both bonding carbon tube to carbon tube and also carbon tube to aluminium then I would suggest our ET515 Semi Flexible Structural Epoxy Adhesive. Although it's called a 'semi flexible' you would still consider it a rigid adhesive it's just that it has a bit of 'give' which is helpful in applications like this. If you are just bonding carbon tube to carbon tube then our PT326 Polyurethane Adhesive would just edge it in terms of mechanical performance over an epoxy for this kind of plastic to plastic bond.

I hope this helps and look forward to working with you.

All the best, Matt
