Hello everyone,

I have been looking through the forum to answer some basic questions I have but could not found the answer, that's why I am typing all of them here if that is all right.

1. Differences between 3k, 6k, 9k, and how many different types of fibre cloths are in the market
2. How many kinds of epoxy resins are in the market and their applications
3. Why and how to use Nomex and aluminium honeycomb structures
4. Would it be possible to create parts with polyurethane and wrap them with carbon fibre using the skinning technic?

It would be awesome If any of you could give me a hand with this. Much appreciated

Hi Marcos,

The difference between a 3k, 6k and  other  cloth is the size of the tows used to make them.. It refers to the number of fibres in a tow. 3k is the most common fabric for your typical cosmetic  surface layer of fabric.  Generally the bigger the tow, the thicker or heavier the cloth will likely be.

In terms  of number of different types of cloth on the market, probably at least hundreds if not thousands of different combinations.

Again hundreds of different types of epoxies for different uses and hundreds of different brands.   You are better off looking for the type of resin you need for the process you want to do.

Honeycomb cores are just another method of making a light weight cored panel.  Commonly used in aerospace and motorsport.  Often they are used with a film adhesive to make the panels.

There is no reason why you could not skin a part made in PU.  The surface would need a good key as with any other material being skinned.
