Hi all,
I've joined the forum to seek some advice.
I have a carbon fibre bicycle frame which has sustained some damage to the top tube, see attached pics.
I came across easy composites whilst searching for epoxy resin to fill in the chips but not having experience with these materials I would like some advice.
My plan was to key the chipped area and fill with resin then touch up the paint so I would also like to know what my options are regarding the type of paint to use.
Thanks,
Mark

They look quite nasty in that the fibre could be damaged. It looks like an impact which has folded the cloth. If this is the case you may need to add some fibre. If it is just a bit out of the top coat then you can repair easily with resin. I tiny amount of coating resin would do perfectly. Mix it up, fill the marks and put some tape over the top. A light sand and it's ready for finishing.
For that repair it's a gnats chuff of resin. If your near Macclesfield I can give you some to save you buying a pot.
WRT paint I'd always go for automotive 2 pack as I have the gear to apply it. A small rattle can would be OK though if needs be.

Hi FLD,
Thanks for the advice and the offer of some resin but im based in London.
How's best to identify if the carbon has folded? Should I sand back the damaged area?
If the fibre is ok what resin would be suitable from easy composites website? I was oringally looking at the rapid repair resin or epoxy repair filler.

It dosnt look deep so I think you would be OK to fill with resin, looks more the paint that's been chipped to be honest
