Hi everyone,
An old(ish) dog trying to learn new tricks. I've been fascinated by carbon fibre for decades, now I have this brilliant place to learn.
Go easy on me please

Sadly, I don't have great facilities for anything too extravagant. I thought I might start with a carbon fiber kite, at least until i build my skills.

Ultimately, my dream is to make a full carbon fiber boat hull (runabout size, maybe 4 meters in length), but I'll have to wait for a Lottery win to do that. It would have an aluminium honeycomb core.

Possibly not as expensive as you might think for a one off, depending on the design. Especially in Brisbane, you've got a good few advanced composite suppliers near you so you can really keep the costs down. I get most of my stuff imported from Brisbane, and the DG charges are horrible.
Get some experience under your belt first, but I think once you've got the hang of making moulds and carbon parts, a smallish boat hull like that isn't totally affordable (if you don't count the labour time).

Really?, can you possibly throw some names at me please? I've searched around but can only find a place called "Boatcraft" at Loganholme.
Easy Composites could set up a business here in Australia and make a killing. Yes, the DG charges are significant indeed.
All part of the learning process I suppose.
