120°C composites tooling system

Group: Forum Members Posts: 13, Visits: 539	Hi, professors, I have a question how to cut the cost of 120°C composites tooling system. the dimensional accuracy we hope will be ±0.5mm or ±0.2mm。the part what I want would be used in general industry: car,train,boat,sport,medical,plane,..... I don't want to use tooling epoxy block to make the master mould, and also I dont want to use the epoxy Tooling prepregs to laminate the tooling. this tow metirials is too expensive and the process cost a lot. do we have any other choice? beijing of China Edited 11 Years Ago by Edward

Group: Forum Members Posts: 13, Visits: 539	thanks.ok, in my mind I can not find out a gelcoat up to 120°C, it seems that the tooling material will be epoxy resin and reinforcement. the master have to be machined, polished,gelcoated, we can get a master mould, the tempereture is up to 50°C.it means that the tooling matetial could initial cure at 50°C then post cure at 120° out of the master mould. beijing of China

Group: Forum Members Posts: 363, Visits: 3K	The thing is that the tooling resin/prepregs you are talking about are designed to meet this exact requirement i.e. initial elevated temp cure at 50-60deg then are dimensionally stable for an off the mould high temp post cure

Group: Administrators Posts: 2.5K, Visits: 8.5K	We have had reports of people having success using the Uni-Mould at higher temperatures, especially with smaller moulds in which the parts cure quickly. However, some customers have also had problems exceeding the recommended temperature. Common problems can include blistering due to trapped air, print through due to softening and also rapid wear and break up of the moulds. So we would always recommend staying within the recommended limitations to be on the safe side. if you choose to go higher, you would need to take great care to balance the risk of damaging the mould. We are investigating if we can reasonably take the Uni-Mould to higher temperatures as well as we are looking into and testing higher temperature tooling products to provide a more reliable solution.
