Help needed to make a big spoiler side panels, how to take mold?

Group: Forum Members Posts: 30, Visits: 987	Hi guys, need sum help here. Got to make this spoiler. Its 3 part. 2 side panels and 1 blade ( main spoiler bit) The side panels got to a be certain thickness to be rigid. This needs to ne frp not carbon. So im planning to make with wovenglass and soric lantor and do a resin infusion. My question is how i can seal the edge of the blades? They are pretty easy panels to get the molds. Kinda confused as how to make make molds and how do i make the edges sealed and smooth? Or any other way to make this panels? Cheers Attachments image.jpg (614 views, 107.00 KB)

This allows a thin section all the way round which seals the core and potentially better aero The alternative is to again stop the core short of the edge and build up the same thickness as the core using woven tape, or just strips of you glass. Unless you know the exact thickness of a single layer once cured, it may take a bit of trial to know how many layers to put in

Havnt got a huge amount of experience with wings, but I've used the permabond adhesive from EC to join mine together. F3 wings which use a support bonded inside to support the centre of the chord, I'll try and remember to get a picture tomorow of a smashed one to explain what I mean. Group: Forum Members Posts: 468, Visits: 2.7K	Here's a thread on my wing http://www.vx220.org.uk/forums/topic/108907-latest-moulding-nsfg/ I made the wing in two parts (1x200g, 3x600g) layup for the wing part. Its so rigid it needs no internal bracing but it is a little heavy (around 4kg). If you look at the two halves there's a flange on the front. I bolted the halves together and then put some 25mm carbon tape down the inside (add a weight to the end of the tape and drop it down the wing). I wet out the tape with a brush on a broom handle. I'd recommend some smaller dowel as it was a pain! Once cured the rear edge was prised open slightly and some bonding paste squeezed in before clamping it shut. The ends of the wing element are sealed in with some 10mm plywood 'sections'. I put tee-nuts into the back of the plywood to hold the end plates. My end plates are made of carbon / glass mix. I just used polyester resin for this as they aren't really load bearing. I made them by laying up on some bagging film (1x600g carbon, 3x 450g CSM, 1x 600g carbon) I put some more bagging film over the top (careful not to trap air in). I put the whole lot between two sheets of ply and put an engine on the top of it all. Bodger, me??! Makes a nice flat end plate. Hope this helps.
