Guys, I need some input. Just 2 days ago I installed a carbon fiber (that's what they call it) front diffuser on my SRT Jeep. Being too enthusiastic, I used rivets which were one size too small and today the center piece dropped down a few centimeters and I scrapped out the middle part (see picture).

Just bought a carbon fiber repair kit from the site. Will this kit get the job done? Do I need more stuff? Never done such repairs. Or am I way over my head. All input is very welcome and thanks!

is the section to be repaired on show? If not then you can probably get away with prepping the surface with 80 or 120 grit then applying a resin sealing coat to the surface.

The picture suggests its a pigmented resin with carbon surface layer and CSM backing so it's probably polyester resin.

Yes, this is part of the section damaged (did not get it completely in the picture, it's twice this size). On top there are a few "holes" where I think the clear coat got damaged.

The thing is the CF pattern is not visible anymore. It's as if it's literally scraped away. How exactly will I get that "look" back? Do they sell CF layers or something I can put glue on top?

As said it looks like the outer layer is carbon but with glass backing.  Its quite common as it gives 'the look' without the cost.  What appears to have happened is that you've abraded the carbon layer away.  As I see it you have 3 options:

1) Smooth it out and paint it the same colour as your car

2) Smooth it out and carbon skin it (quite labour intensive IME)

3) Smooth it out and wrap it in one of those carbon effect vinyls

Ok, now I'm starting to understand

I think I will try option 3 first. If that does not work I will paint it gloss black.

Another question though. I do have large piece of carbon effect vinyl wrap over here from 3M. How do I proceed? I cut out a piece about the size of the damage and try to match the pattern. Smooth out the damaged surface and stick it on. With what kind of clear coat would you guys suggest I paint it? Just any clear coat? 

You will never get the vinyl to match the cf weave, they look completely different. You would have to wrap the whole thing

To get the cosmetic finish back, i agree you would need to skin a fresh layer of carbon over the top of the damage. But it is a lot of work.

I will give it a shot, lots of work or not  If I'm not satisfied I will just paint the bottom gloss black.

Question: On Easycomposites I found 2/2 twill carbon and profinish 2/2 twill carbon. Should I go with the profinish? What do you guys think?
