Hi All

New to the forum so apologise if this has been mentioned before,  I'm just starting a boot lid project pretty much exactly the same as the bonnet in the 3 part how to guide, i've tried making a few other items and considering i'm new to this am happy with the results so far.  They can be improved but i know that with a little more understanding of the materials i'll be there.

Now that i've tried the infusion process on more complex smaller items i thought i'd give the larger project a go as its a lot more simpler than my previous items.  All the products, tools etc are bought from the website and am really impressed with the quality of them however i've come across something which doesn't work right.

I'm following the video guides pretty much frame by frame to ensure that i get this project spot on and only got as far as the templates for the barriers and the way it shows to do them in the video doesn't work, is it me or has something been skipped over missed out.  You show masking out, cutting the edges to match the edges of the bonnet and then transfering them to corex and cutting everything out exactly around the masking tape.  I'm sorry i cant word it right but when you pull these templates out the 4 - 5 inches to create the barrier they are shorter than the edge you need to fix them too.

Thankfully i've sussed out how to do it but the process differs from the video.  Is there something i've missed or is there something you've done that hasn't been covered by the video.

Many thanks

Kei

Hi my name is Konstantin, I am new to this forum and wish to start making parts as well, I need to introduce myself properly ,

I just wanted jump and reply as I notice in my opinion there was something into making the template of the barriers on the video, I watched it about 5 times ...

Basicly on the video the masking tape for template is place at the edge of the bonnet and inside, the tape is about 50 mm (width) inside the bonnet, but after when the barriers are glued they are glued at 20 mm inside the edge of the bonnet and sticking out about 100 mm,

OK in anther words, if you use ( about) a 20 mm masking tape as a template; place it then cut it....remove it, place it on the barriers materiel and ad 100 mm ( careful to ad it toward outside the bonnet)  so the width of the template will be a total 120 mm ( 20 mm for gluing inside and 100 mm to stick out)

you can also cut all panels 20 mm longer so they overlapping then use realise tape to hold them together so the resin don't leak in between,

never done it but my tailoring skills, tell me this is the right way...
someone may correct me if I am wrong

good luck !!

I think your correct there, the way you describe was almost exactly how i did it.  It just appeared that on the video he said stick the tape onto your plastic board mark this line and cut.

Maybe a little video to explain this process a bit further would help others as its quite an important step in the process.
