I am I in the wrong line of work??
I have been making a couple of parts for my own use on my Mountain bike.. Now I have no idea if these parts will fit anything else and to be honest I dont care... Or didnt... I wanted to add a little protection to the chain stays and the rear derailleur of my bike. So I hacked up a couple of scrap parts I made a while a go as test parts to just see what I could do.. I ended up wrapping the chain stay with carbon over a layer of tape so I could cut it off if I damage it and do it again in the future.. OK not something I can sell to others... Kit... 2 foot length of pre-preg carbon, roll of insulating tape and release film.... Hmm.... Bit of a bodge really but it is my bodge lol..

But I made up a rear derailleur protector I posted up on my own facebook page and all of a sudden I have 4 orders for a part I made from scrap parts and a few scraps of carbon. Un-tested and although it fits my bike I really have no idea if it will work with any other model in the same manufacturers range never mind other makes... One of the guys wanting the part is runner up in some world championship and oddly for a world title contender actually wants to pay for the part! The other guy is associated with a Mountain bike shop and wants one to test himself and modify if needed and a second one to see if they can actually drum up sales too... Finally the last one I am making for someone else as a freebie for a mate who rides competitive events and has had some damage to the part I am trying to protect myself.... Looks like I should be going into the mountain bike business.... lol..

Please remember I have not made the mould to have a specific surface finish as for me the part is a throw away part and was just for my own use so I was not worried about pin holes or a glossy or even surface finish. I didn't even cure the part in my oven I just had it sitting in a vac bag in front of my fan heater while I work... So not even a proper cure just a real fast and dirty part!! Yet still seem to have people want them..... LOL... seems we get too wrapped up in the quality of our own parts a little too much when we are trying something... The whole little project was a fast and dirty approach and seems to have worked.... Wish I could do this all the time and make a killing... haha...

Have you seen the number of cyclists in your local area recently?
I suspect you have a massive market right outside your door. Good luck Smile
