Can I get a good surface finish without spraying gelcoat? I haven't got the funds for the spraying gun and an air compressor so that'll have to wait for now. I'm doing a small part as a first try, it's a small rectangular plate, almost a tray actually. It has a nice polished surface. I got it from IKEA for 5 quid so I won't even bother with a mold, I'll just stick it on a flat signboard, seal it so there's no undercut and just infuse it. Anyway, as I already mentioned, I was wondering whether it's possible to get a good surface finish without spraying gelcoat? Or maybe I should brush down a layer of resin, wait for it to go tacky and go on from there? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated

You can get a good surface without a gelcoat Wink I never use a gelcoat on the parts I make and always get good results as long as the mouldsurface is perfect and you have no leaks in the bag...
