Mould Gel/Epoxy Coat Question

Hi,

Being new to carbon laminating I'm wondering if someone could help me with a few questions:

I'm having a similar issue to a previous topic where the initial layer of epoxy resin applied to my mould is running or drying unevenly.

It has been suggested to cut out the initial layer here: http://www.talkcomposites.com/FindPost7264.aspx

My question is after applying the carbon layers with resin and let it cure do you then pop the part out of the mould and add a coat of resin to the face of the part to allow the smooth appearance or using something else?

Or are you best using GC50 Gelcoat as the first layer instead?

Thanks for any help.

GC50 is a good product, It's one of the few Polyester gelcoats that works very well with Epoxy underlays and adheres well.

Yes, paint or spray GC50 into the mould, allow to cure for the recommended inteval and then laminate onto it.
