iPhone 5 case mould

I've recently purchased both the laminating kit and mould making kit. I'm looking to get started today however having watched the YouTube videos I have a few questions before I start.

As its an iPhone 5 case I will be making, when moulding should I consider the slight overlap of plastic when making the mould? Or would it be best to not make a mould and lay the carbon down inside?

I notice in the video the putty is placed around the edges however not all the way to the surface of the plastic work area is this purely to stop mechanical lock? Will I also need to consider the overlap as the case will not snap to the phone when made?

Could anyone give me an idea of the mixture I will need to make the mould as I do not want any waste?

I do not have a plastic work surface can I use a plastic food tray?

Finally I do not have the polishing agent is this necessary in getting a good mould or can an alternative household product suffice?

I hope my questions makes sense.

That will work with epoxy not polyester. Tooth paste is a very fine polish.
