"Fake" pre-preg

I was attempting to skin an armrest with the last of my 3K 2x2 twill carbon fiber. I thought that the CF was wide enough to cover the part without a millimeter to spare. I was quite wrong. It was about a millimeter too short on both sides. I proceeded to take the CF off of the tacky resin on the armrest. The CF was on there for no more than 2 minutes. Probably closer to 1 minute. I put the CF on the side and hung my head in failure.

A few days later I picked up that same piece of CF to see what happened with it. It is slightly stiff and quite easily bendable.

Pros:

The weave distorts very little and when it does it is rather easy to put them back in place, albeit not perfectly. It went around a single rounded edge very well with almost non-existent "lift" (not sure if that's a proper term) of the horizontal threads. It wraps around cylinders .5 inch or larger very nicely. Results were much better when the weave was laid diagonally. Laying it diagonally allowed it to wrap very nicely around a Bic lighter with zero lift of any fibers. The fibers do not fray at all at its edges even when cut diagonally. After all of the bending I did the edges frayed very little or not at all.

Cons:

Hard right angle result in extreme "lift",because it's slightly stiff, not matter which way it's laid. Multiple angles of any kind, in very close proximity to each other proved to be an epic fail. Very small cylinders were also a fail. It seems too springy to lay on corners and get it to stick and stay down. I cannot confirm since I have depleted my supplies.

Given all I have found, it's uses seem very limited. I'm thinking of using it for small simple parts like door handles, buttons, trunk release and such. I may produce a fedora or bowler with it. I also have a few secret ideas.
