Hi guys,
I’m just getting ready to try my hand at resin infusion to make some automotive panels with carbon fiber. I’m wondering what is the best method for the finished surface? Is it best to add the clear gelcoat like in the easycomposite video or is it best to skip the gelcoat and finish with automotive clearcoat when the part is finished?
Thank you

The EC GC50 Gelcoat is excellent. It can be applied to the mould (I find spraying gives the best result). If you allow it to become tacky it also acts like spray tack making positioning of the first layer of reinforcement easier. Once infused and cured it gives a hard, UV resistant finish that polishes well. I use it quite a lot and it is much less hazardous than 2K Clear.
