Hi,
I'm thinking of trying to recreate some of these centre caps, I don't actually have an original to work from as yet but I'm hoping that on the back under the mounting plate is a relief recess of the design that I can take a mould from? The top surface of the cap is domed so maybe a 2 part mould is necessary? Any suggestions about how I should go about this, foreseeable problems, probable outcomes?
Once cast I plan on painting from the back in 2 stages (1. logo 2. background)

I suspect that cap is made in 3 parts, the back retaining plate, a pressed plate containing the design, and then a clear dome of plastic or resin on top. If the clear bit is soft enough to dig into, then chances are they just used a traditional "doming" process with a PU doming resin to create that part. But if rigid, it could be an injection moulded part,
I would probably do it in a similar process. If you want to cast the clear section, then a 2 part mould to include the domed front face and the logo impression on the back would work. You could even paint the reverse to do the colours meaning you can knock it down to a 2 part piece as you then just need the retaining plate.
