Hi all,
New to carbon and epoxy so this is all a steep learning curve. I’ve been playing around with some carbon layups in moulds, wet lay with vacuum bagging. The items/moulds are apron 300mm x 300mm and have a similar dished contour to a dinner plate. I’m using 450 twill, 2 layers of 250 unidirectional and then 650 twill on top.
Mould is prepped with easy lease, left 15 minutes, then buffed off. I’ve tried using the resin to create a gel coat layer, leaving until tacky, then continuing the layup, but still don’t seem to be having any luck. The parts appear to have structural integrity, but cosmetically they have voids and gaps on both surfaces. I imagine though, that bubbles will be present throughout the layup.
Things I’m yet to try. Vacuum degassing the resin. Using slow harder (currently fast) More/less vacuum. Currently, don’t have a gauge/regulator)
Your thought on this would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Bill

Degassing the resin is highly recommended. The unidirectional cf has less space to let the resin flow, keep that in mind.
