We are preparing a large (~9sqm) pattern to make a 3 piece split mould. (The mould is 480kg/m3 modelboard, finished with pattern coat.)
1-We have cleaned and then treated the whole mould surface with Easy Lease (6+ coats).
2-Then we have fitted shuttering to form the flanges of the first set of moulds. The shuttering is sealed down to the mould surface using filleting wax and that process has resulted in some filleting wax residue on the surface of the pattern in places.
3-Our intention is to applying a final 1-2 coats of Easy Lease, in case all of the handling of the pattern through the process of fitting the shuttering, etc over a couple of days etc etc has degraded the Easy Lease treatment anywhere locally. However - is there a risk of doing harm rather than good? I note that the guidance for Easy Lease is to ensure that any wax residue etc is cleaned off the surface before applying the release agent and that there can be negative interactions between the two. We (obviously) do not want to apply cleaner to the surface that has already been release treated. My concern is just that applying extra Easy Lease over some wax residue could do something harmful (eg: through a chemical reaction between the two). Perhaps an intermediate option would be to avoid areas with wax residue in the final coats of Easy lease.
4-The mould lay up will be wet layup with high temperature Epoxy gelcoat + resin.
I expect that the moulds will probably release fine form the pattern whether or not we apply extra Easy Lease - but because of the size there is quite a lot at stake so we want to minimise risk!

Usually wax residue will wipe off onto a piece of wax being used like an eraser. Otherwise a soft cloth will usually do the trick.
