Mould Making from wood or MDF

Hi you all!

I am planning to make moulds out of block woods machined by CNC, and I need your expertise with some questions:

1. Is better MDF or normal wood blocks? The wood blocks, due to the size of the mould should be glued together, would that be a problem?
2. In order to seal it before applying the release agent, which method should I use? Should it be sprayed/covered by epoxy? Or there is any kind of gel coat for this purpose?
3. Which would be the minimum thickness to apply of the sealing material in order to be able to get as many releases as possible?

Thank you very much for your time, hope you can help me!

Good compositesing!

Wood is fine as long as you are not using prepreg.
