Hi

I'm new to the forum and carbon fibre construction. I have a plan for my first project and have a few questions that I hope you can help with. The project it to create a custom downtube protector for one of my mountain bikes; the protector would cover the ground facing part of the downtube and under the bottom bracket. So essentially some curves but no lockouts or complex cormers.
My thoughts up to now are:

- I need to cover the part of downtube I am covering in something before making the mould i.e. a material that will mimic the finished CF because I am making a cover essentially; am I right to assume this is where wax sheet comes in?
- I the apply the mould (epoxy putty)
- Once dried/cured etc remove , clean and prep etc
- the lay the CF as per instructions
- polish etc
- stand back and admire the great job BigGrin (hmm
- realise I forgot to work out how to fit it to the frame Crazy

A few questions:
- does the above make sense?
- do I need to cover the wax sheet in anything before covering in the epoxy putty?
- is epoxy putty the right approach, it will be a long thin mould?
- how easy is it to clean the wax sheet off the original component?
- if I use a 2mm wax sheet and layer the CF and resin to be approx that how strong would that be ; should I be going for 3mm (how long is a piece of string question I guess)
