Rotocasting

Hi,

I was hoping someone could help out with a quick question. Can the fast cast polyurethane resin available from Easy Composites be used for rotocasting leg/arm moulds (costume parts), this would be done by hand, or would this be otherwise unsuitable?.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Ace,

Fast Cast would be rotocastable but it's not designed for this application and so it might need some experimentation. It's not that you wouldn't be able to do it it's more that you'd need to tinker around with its properties a bit first to get it to behave right. For example, you may need to add some colloidal silica to thicken it and make it more likely to 'cling' to the mould as it's rotated and as such there might be some trial and error involved. Also, for rotocasting a more steady cure 'curve' is preferred; Fast-Cast is pretty quick and when it goes it goes, a more gradual cure is better but it's certainly not out of the question.

Best regards, Matt
