Hi All,
I have been building race fairings for a motorcycle using standard carbon sheets and epoxy resin...and even using vacuum, I find it tricky to get something perfect, as it's a bit tough to get the carbon sheets properly stuck to all edges and curves. So I wanted to give a shot to pre-preg, as it seems it would solve the whole thing.
So my questions are simple:
1) When you are used with wet system, vacuum, etc...is pre-preg much harder ? I have access to a proper oven. Or is it in fact easier ?
2) For race fairings, how many layers and of what type of pre-preg would you use ?

Pre-preg is so much easier. You may find it a little bit strange handling the sticky fabric compared to dry fabric, but you will find the rest of the process so much easier.
If I were building race fairings, Id be using X-Preg and I wouldn't be doing them any more solid than one layer of the 210g and one layer of the 450g. To be honest, I'd probably be tempted to go as light as possible and just do 2 layers of the 210g, with maybe a bit of localised reinforcement for the fastening areas.
