Resin for use with dry flowers

Hi,
I'm trying to select a material to use with dry flowers, we have left over flowers from our wedding and we thought it would be nice to make them into a tabletop feature.
We are looking at table with raised sides as shown below:

Obviously we'll have to blank off the carry handles to avoid a great mess!
The main concerns are which material wont either ruin the paint on the table,or destroy the dry flowers, or have the flowers effect the clarity of the material.
I've looked at the Glass Cast Epoxy and the Water Clear Polyester Casting Resin but can't decide between the two, there is a good chance I'm missing other options out there too!

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers, Lid

Hi Lid,

Thanks for your message. Just so that I'm clear on what you want to do, am I right in thinking that you would like to *fill* the wooden tray itself with a clear resin that would simulate water so that the end effect would be as though the cake stand was sitting in deep water (with the plants trailing into the water too)?

If this is this the case then actually the perfect resin for the job isn't something that we have available right now. I can see why GlassCast might seem like the right option but really this is for thinner coatings (recommended for 2-3mm). For what you're planning you need incredible clarity even in thick section otherwise it's not going to look like water.

For this, I would recommend a resin that we're launching in January of next year. I'm not sure what your time frame is but if you can wait until January then we have a new version of our GlassCast (exact name still to be determined) which is designed to be cast in sections from about 5mm up to 50mm and at these thicknesses it remains water clear. It's not a replacement for our original GlassCast, it's intended to compliment it for customers doing thicker castings where clarity is paramount.

If you like I can contact you as soon as the material is ready to ship out. It is actually in production right now so we know that we won't be waiting long to launch it.

I hope this helps,

All the best,

Hi Matt,

The picture may be a little misleading, this image is just off the website for the table manufacturer to show the table, no cake stands will be involved . What we want to do is have our remaining flowers in the tray section of the table then pour resin over the top to seal the flowers within, so we can still use the table as a table
So yes we'd be looking at filling the tray section, so possible up to a couple of inches deep.
Thanks for your response and  please do contact me when your new resin launches.

Cheers, Lid
