Hello! I am building some Snowboards from the ground. The first snowboard version will be solid carbon fiber all the way through. So I have som questions about your pre preg linked here: https://www.easycomposites.co.uk/prepreg-reinforcements/vari-preg-22-twill-220g.html

1) Will the epoxy in the Prepreg be suitable for Snowboard? Will the epoxy be able to flex without cracking for many cycles and be impact resistant in cold degrees?

2) What is the resin to fabric ratio in your 215 gram pre preg? Or what is the cured m^2 weight including resin?

3) I need som extra pre preg epoxy that I can put at a needed place. Is this possible to order?

4) if the pre preg listed above is not suitable for Snowboard. Do you have an epoxy that is suitable for snowboard together with Carbon fiber?

Hi,

Thanks for your post. This sounds like an interesting project. So, to answer your questions:

1) Yes, the VariPreg would make a great prepreg for a snowboard. There would be no problem with fatigue or brittleness in the environment and conditions that a snowboard would experience. The amount of flex that you will get will come down to the thickness of the laminate and the shape of the board however you will have no problem with the resin cracking.

2) The resin ration for the 215g VariPreg is 42%.

3) We have an adhesive film (resin film with a very light glass scrim) which would be ideal for this purpose. It's not listed on our website yet because I it's brand new but we do have it in stock. It's called XA120, just get in touch with our sales team and we will be able to sort you out.

I hope this helps and look forward to working with you on this.

Matt
