Hello,

can carbon rovings (12k/24k) be used in the vacuum infusion process?

I am sure I can create a good layup, the UD (roving) section will be 3mm thick, 50mm wide on top of one wider layer of 600g/m2 biaxial carbon fabric?

Would all the fibres be wetted through?

It can be difficult for resin to travel through unidirectional fibes as the fibres in uni fabrics are always very close leaving almost nothing as a flow path for the resin. The gaps in other fabrics create a path for the resin to flow.

Best to just do your own test samples and see how it goes.

If needed you can add in layers of other woven fabrics within the layers of unidirectional so that the resin has a path right into the uni fibre stack.
