Hi all

I am new to mould making at home and to this site

I have a Uni-Mould kit from Easy Composites and have made a pattern for a kit car scoop using my original scoop from the car see picture attached

I would really like any tips / advice you may have on how to prep / release the pattern before making the mould

I have read instructions sheets and watch videos BUT would welcome any contributions as you cannot beat the experience of other people that have started out the same way

For example I have a block of filleting wax to use where there might be some under cuts but do i put this on before or after releasing the pattern

Thanks in advance for any helping a newbie

Regards
Ian

Good job and excellent for the first effort.

Those damaged edges appear broken away from just getting caught when releasing. Just do a small gelcoat repair.

Dremmel/sand the broken area and just make a dam on one side with some masking tape, then fill/overfill with gelcoat. Make sure you put some styrene wax addative in the repair gelcoat and be careful not to use too much catalyst as this could make it porous. Also make sure you remove any air bubbles from the repair gel just by teasing the wet gel repair with a toothpick or similar. Sand and polish.
