Prepping a solid core for infusion

I've done some different infusion tests with the 5 and 10 mm PVC foam core.
The 10 mm is the grooved and drilled version and gives an excellet coverage of expoy on the underside of the layup. But on the 5 mm without any grooves or holes the expoy just gets in about 40-50 mm from the outside edges.

I'm about to make large boards with the 5mm. How would you recommend I go about and modify the core to get good coverage?
I'm talking about 4 square meters so e.g. drilling every 25 mm would be preeeetty time consuming.

I would want to be drilling at least every 2 inches to ensure good wet out. I'd probably do 40mm to be safe.

You don't need to drill though, you can just punch a hole with a screw driver or anything. For 4sqm, I'd probably get a plank if wood and put some nails through it along its length spaced 40mm apart. Then you can punch 10-20 holes at a time without having to measure spacing.
