Hey everyone, Its been a while since Ive posted on here. Ive recently got engaged and am wanting to make my own carbon fiber ring. I have a few Ideas on how to go about this but want to hear what others have to say.

On idea it to cut a strip of CF and wet lay it wrapped around a aluminum rod that is machined down to my ring size. That way the inner part matches my finger. Then cut and polish to finish

Another is to buy cf woven tube and do the same principle with the aluminum rod just using this instead.

i just want a nice pattern. nothing fancy inlayed or anything else. Just a nice carbon ring

Hi,

I did a few Carbon rings a while back ..

I made a very slightly tapering mandrel from aluminium, and made the rings by laying up narrow strips of CF on this.

wet lay with a lot of  resin .. then wrapped in Peelply and shrink tape - Really just a quick & dirty approach ..

When cured i left the rings on the mandrel, removed the tape and peelply and sprayed on several coats of clear coat and chucked the lot back in my lathe and worked on the outside of the rings there. (Sanding and polishing)  most of the rings stayed fixed to the mandrel for most of this work ..

I cooled the mandrel in ice-water and then I could knock the rest of them off --   Then finish edges and inside ..

I used several types of CF for the outer layers, the normal twill does not make much of a pattern on a narrow ring, but the EC 90Gsm plain weave looks quite nice.
