I'm thinking to use modeling clay to make mold.
The idea is when clay is harden and then apply the chopped strand mat over.
Is this a feasible method?

Hi Lawrence,
I experimented with that procedure last year. I used DAS modelling clay, as it's an air drying clay I thought I might get away with it. The whole thing turned into a disaster ! As a precaution I 'sealed' the clay 'plug' using vinyl mat emulsion paint before hand laying glassfibre ........ it still stuck to my mould like sh*t to a blanket unfortunately.
I think the material you decide to use for your mould, greatly depends on the shape you want to create. MDF seams to be a favourite, but it can be difficult to work. Have you considered low density polyurethane foam, with a layer of body filler ?
