So my first attempt at making anything carbon fibre.

Using both the laminating kit and mould starter kit as these were brought for me as presents.
Quite a simple project and if this goes well enough i'll take the plunge and make bigger items and go vacuum bagging and resin infusion for my bigger project ideas.

I decided to make a simple oil filler cap cover, Did research and found i needed to use sheet wax to make the mould larger.
So 1mm sheet wax brought + some other bits i was missing (Awesome delivery time EC thanks)

Here's some pictures of my process so far. Followed the instuctions and guides to the letter, stuck the part down with filleting wax rolled and pressed down on the board.

As I've got a clear base board, i can slide the board and see underneath, no gel coat leaked under the part so i'm happy so far Smile

Questions i have now,
How many layers of carbon material and reinforcement will i need to build up the 1mm gap?
I'm not too fussed if the cover is bigger than the cap as it'll be bonded on but obviously too tight will cause issues.

Also with Sheet wax, is pva suitable as a release agent, it's all i had to hand and so i'm hoping it releases?

Well it came off the board and the mould looks good.

sanded and polished it up and waiting for better scales to measure the resins with http://www.talkcomposites.com/Uploads/Images/91e907d6-3231-43ef-8acf-07a6.jpg
