I thought I have seen the answer somewhere but as usual can not find the answer again. What is the ideal thickness of advanced cure silicone rubber around an object to make a mould please?

An important parameter is the uniform thickness of the silicone all around the part. Lets say 5mm all around will yield uniform thickness and thus uniform shrinkage within the silicone as it cures. If you have areas that are thin and areas that are thicker the shrinkage will be more in the thick areas, and if tight tolerances are a concern than silicone uniformity is important. I can't comment on how thick the silicone needs to be to have it demold properly, i would guess the thickness needed/desired would be based on the tensile strength of the silicone and how undercut the part might be.
