Hi all ...

here's the start of a small project ...

A friend an I are rebuilding an old (1983) BMW R65LS into a "Brat-Tracker-style" General purpose "poser"  Cool

That naturally calls for some custom CF/kevlar parts..

First one is the seat shell for a simple flat twin seat ..

I decided to skip one stage, since the visible part of the seat is the underside ..  the top will be covered completely with seat foam and Leather/Alcantara seat cover.

Hence the use of a "plug mould"

It is made from 22 mm MDF board glued and screwed together to form the front "lip" then routed, cut and sanded into shape..

I then applied a couple of coats of ordinary laminating epoxy with black dye, sanded down, then added a layer of some 90 gsm eglass and topped off with EC coating epoxy (I have a 1 kg package that is nearing its end of shelf life, but it still works just fine. I added a bit of graphite filler to the first layer, then sanded to 600 and gave it a final layer of coating resin.

The picture is actually from before polishing ...

More to follow....  I plan to try a few different ways of making the seat shell.. using sprayed om GC50 and infusion (I'll need to add some flanges for that) but the first one will be straight forward hand lay-up laminating and vac-bagging..
