Epoxy tooling gel coat - quite thick to apply.

Hi folks,

I've posed this question in the mould making section a few days ago but I'm looking for a more definitive answer from you guys.

I've been using the above on my current project (model aircraft) and have been impressed with it's hardness when cured. But I find it's quite thick to brush on and doesn't flow very well, leaving quite an irregular surface .  Is it possible to thin it slightly so that it flattens out better?

Many thanks, Marty

You can be light with the brush on your second application to minimise the brush marks if its an issue.  Remember also your backing layer, wether it is putty or wet laid glass fibre, should be going on when the gel is still tacky.  When at that stage, rolling flat any fibreglass will likely squish most of the brush marks anyway.
