Will the fabric effect the interlamina bond between the core and 1st ply from the core?
I haven't time to do a test piece so I'm going to have to test "in service" so here goes:
I've got a new build coming and I want to save some weight and reduce the stiffness in places in this one but which fabric would be best as the 1st ply from the core? I've got 375 twill, 200 plain and 300 bi-ax. Currently I have 375 as the 1st ply which has worked OK but ideally I would like to put the bi-ax there or at worst the 200 plain. The core is Gurit M80 structural foam
The load can come from any direction from 0 to 90deg depending on the loadcase but I want to soften in the 0 and 90 axis rather than +/-45 but the deflections and relative shear between ply and core along the bond could/will be quite high
Any thoughts?
Chris
edit: my initial prototype had the 375 as the 1st ply as it's relative stiffness is less than the 200 due to the larger weave pattern
