Good afternoon folks,

Just thought I would pop in and say hello, and ask a quick question

I am currently building a large telescope from scratch and have been looking at different methods of creating the structure, one of which is a resin infused laminate.
I have attached an image of the part I want to produce, the overall diameter of the exterior diameter is about 14 inches.  The smaller holes have been designed out so it is a solid piece with the large hole in the centre.  The part will be 10mm thick.  I am using roving mat and a 3d core material.
Would resin infusion work with this shape? I was planning on running spiral coil around half of the exterior circumference and drawing the vacuum from the opposite side.
My concern is the resin will not penetrate the depth of the laminate, would it be better to laminate two halves and then bond them together?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

B.

I can't see why infusion wouldn't work for that. If it was a 10mm thick laminate then you might have issues, but with PET infusion core you'll be fine. The better way to plumb your resin and vacuum lines would be to have the resin feed in the middle and the vacuum spiral around the outer circumference to infuse evenly from the middle.
