Been given a brand new material to test which gives a perfect pin hole free finish....  I have to admit until now the best material has been VTF261 (Easypreg by another name) but the cost has driven me to use other materials. If you buy VTF direct you have to order 50sq/m as a minimum order so buying Easypreg is the only other alternative source for the material.. So at a reasonable quantity you are looking at just under £83 per meter to buy.. The material I have just tried will be cheaper and after testing it this week works every bit as well as VTF (easypreg).

I have a contract to make dive tank covers I had to use a material I was supplied which I knew would need to be lacquered. I tried the new material and was impressed with the results.. I have used another material and had parts 95% as good as VTF and perfectly acceptable to my usual customers as it is out of the mould. But this was flawless....

Once I have been given permission to let people know about it I will. But for now it is a material that is close to launch and not yet available.

Here are two covers I made. One with each material..

This one is a PRF RF464. This is fresh material which arrived this week...

This is the new material which arrived this week too.....

Sorry the photos are not the best as these are just from my phone's camera....

No pin holes at all.... The down side is the customers supplied mould is now the weak link for a great part... He is now having a new mould made which will be finished to a proper gloss and any imperfections will be removed..

It does have a good out life so I am sure they could ship to the USA/Canadia... If you wanted them to...
So far it has been perfect but I am not sure if the way I have had to work with a similar spec material has helped as I do put my breather stack down in a very specific way as well as cooking with specific steps in the way I ramp up the temp and dwell at a lower temperature similar to VTF but with a couple of changes.

I will get some better photos today....

The one I made which did not come out so well I sent to a friend who does work for Bentley, Aston Martin and McLaren. He refinishes their carbon to make it good enough for them to be used cosmetically..

He salvaged a poor part and tinted it red to show my customer what can be done... Hope you like his work...

I like that. Is that just a red pigment added to the resin?

Interesting that companies as big as Bentley, Aston Martin and McLaren require someone to refurbish their carbon parts, those guys have some dollars invested in their production lines...

No it is a lacquer... I saw some of the parts from Aston Martin there when they had arrived... Not bad I have seen better and I have seen worse... In fact the one I made using the new material was as good as most parts that the company had seen......

Todays work... I had a little issue with the new oven as it seems it needed a bit of fine tuning. Made one more of those bottle covers and popped it out of the mould this morning. It is flawless, apart from a bit of dust showing up on the photo it has no issues at all... Not a pinhole in sight.....

This is straight out of the mould and not trimmed or polished at all... I am so happy with this material. Once it is made available I will let you guys know what it is and where it is from...

Part looks very nice.

Is that dust or white spot on the part?

Looking forward to hearing what the new material is!

Its dust.. I wiped over the part with a yellow cloth but there was still some dust on the part which I didnt see until I checked the photo. I am about to pull one more from the mould and if I get 5 consistent parts with the material then I will be using that material exclusively. The price is less than £40.00 per sq meter. I think if the order is about 50 sq meters then the price is very close to £30 per sq meter.
