First off .... GREAT SITE !!! ... Full of some great info for the novice composite "artists" who love trying their hand at creation!
My project is to carbon up a few bits on a vintage Honda Interceptor.

1) Is there any reason the High Temp resin cannot be used for both laminating AND skinning?

2) Can I use the black basecoat resin to pretty up the edges on a laminated carbon fibre part?

Keep up the good work,

Hi Gearhead,

The High temp resin can be used for both laminating and skinning no problems, thanks to Joes tests we now also know that it can be used for smaller infusions too!

I also don't see any problem in using the basecoat to 'tidy-up' the edges, the normal method to seal edges (if needed) is to use a cloth to wipe resin around the trimmed edge being careful not to get resin on the face of the part, this seals the edge and gives it a glossy finish.

Another really neat trick is to simply run a black wax crayon (like infants draw pictures with) around the edge and then buff this over with a clean cloth... this leaves a great finish that seems to last for ages.
