Yeah it wont be perfect in any case. Ill post update in the next week or so.

Thanks for supportSmile

Sometimes you just have to say 'Uck It!' and start again if you have to have a perfect finish. The time spent trying to fix a defect so that it is invisible can be longer than the time taken to make a new one and it is a very difficult, if not impossible, thing to do with damaged exposed carbon weave. And, if it is still visible after repair it will niggle away at you :-(

One of the reasons why I paint my carbon, so much less hassle and heartache :-) Besides that, exposed carbon is so last year and common as muck, IMO :-)

Easy Steve, you'll upset people talking like that 🤣

Completely agree about doing it again if perfection is the goal though. Repairing carbon is doable, but it just won't be the same, it will always be kind of visible. It's a shame, because it is a very nice looking bonnet.

Agreed its just the cost of the stack in the hood that makes it worth trying to fix it. This was a prototype piece so some hickups were expected (but i expected inner half would suffer some cosmetical issues due to geomerty).

Thing that was bothering me was the origin of defect.

As to the styling i try to convince custumers to choose something else than standard 1x1 or 2x2 but so far majorty goes with 2x2.........and i make what they wantSmile

For my evo ill go forged look (promo car...... if i werent making cf then i would deffo paint it) Smile

Didn't realise that it was a prototype. Also, as you are making them for customers and they want the carbon look you can't paint them :-)

Well prototype (not like ill change mould features) in terms of layup, cut lines for louvers and fittment. Still if i can sell it to cover material cost (plus moulds) that would be greatSmile

ATM its sitting just over 6kg (with glued in features like bolts and screw points) and its surprisingly stiff so for track/race use i can drop weight by 1 kg at least from inner part.

I learned few new things like:

-build bigger owen
-100% clean mould before putting part back in
-dont use 650g cf as 2nd layer unless you want big print trough (tho after mild sanding and clearcoat ut should be ok)

As always thanks for your helpSmile

6kg!! That's heavy for a bonnet, especially for track use. This whole rear clam weighs 4kg untrimmed.

A BMW bonnet for a race car I would expect closer to 2kg.

Look at those gunsBigGrin

Well its just local drift/TA/track days so not really that high level so i wanted to create something with all OEM features and not flimsy that bends each time you give it odd look (but agreed i was a tad heavy on layup).

But i can hold it one handed since i got guns as well, hehe.

I will see your 2kg and lower it to 1.5kg, after a little bit of trimming :-)

Every gram counts guys. LOL. Still, 6kg is a massive saving over the OEM steel version.  But you could certainly loose more if you wanted it really light.
